Search and rescue (SAR) is a great way for a Mountain Biker to use his/her skills serving as a public volunteer and training with other Mountain Bikers. Mountain Bikers have been used very successfully in SAR and Law Enforcement for many years now. At SPSMSAR we have a Mountain Bike unit which consists of teams of two or more, their bikes and equipment. A trained Mountain Bike team is capable of deploying very quickly, day or night in just about any condition and over most terrain. Mountain Bike teams can be very effective searching and traveling in the wilderness areas, as well as urban areas and can transition unimpeded between roads, trails, parks, around buildings, sidewalks, parking lots, and other terrain conditions.

For night searches the bikes and riders are outfitted with high output lighting and light weight equipment. Mountain Bike teams are effectively used for reconnaissance searches, thorough searches, containment, reconnaissance, radio relay and reaching a remote areas quickly.
