Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get into SAR? First you will need to complete a background check. You will fill this paperwork out at a monthly meeting. After this is cleared you will need to complete the required training.
What State training do I need? The state requires knowledge in these areas; C.P.R., basic first aid, blood borne pathogens, SAR Tech ICS, land navigation, helicopter operations, crime scene, wilderness survival, radio communications, ISO 100 and ISO 700.
How many hours a month do I need to give to SAR? We do not require a set amount of hours per month. We do expect members to attend monthly meetings (approximately 2 hours) and monthly training (approximately 4-6 hours). Please see events calendar for upcoming events.
How long does it take to become fully certified to search? This is up to you and depends on when the county offers a SAR Academy. There will be at least one academy offered per year. Although if you pass your background check and are issued a DEM card you can ride along with a fully certified member on a search. You must carry your DEM card on all missions and you must also have a day pack and be prepared.
What do I get out of SAR? To be in SAR you need to have the desire to help others. You will get to help your local community and receive great training that can help you in and outside of your SAR life.
What color lights can I have?
Amber lights are the only color of aftermarket lights allowed by law on your vehicle. |
